Dunkin' Opens First Locations in France
Very little beats a fantastic breakfast, and many American food brands and restaurants have built their businesses around people who simply love breakfast food. When it comes to breakfast offerings, donuts are a longtime favorite. Donuts have been around for so long, with the breakfast treat's origins date back to Dutch immigrants in 17th and 18th centuries in New York, then called New Netherland, who came up with the idea of frying dough balls to create oil cakes. Later, the first doughnut machine was launched in 1920 in New York City.
Now, one beloved donut company is expanding its business and opening its first locations in France.
Dunkin' may have dropped the word "donuts" from its name, but the company is still known for its donut offerings. The chain's franchise QSRP opened its first location in France on May 14, located at 19 Boulevard Montmartre in Paris. Then, they opened a second location at Paris' Saint-Lazare train station on May 15.
"We are delighted to expand Dunkin's European footprint with the opening of our first location in France," Inspire Brands president and managing director of international Michael Haley said in a statement. Dunkin' is part of the Inspire Brands family of restaurants.
He added, "Fueled by expert restaurant operator QSRP, we're excited to make Dunkin' beverages, donuts, baked goods and sandwiches a daily staple for French guests."
QSRP chief executive officer Alessandro Preda added, "We are excited to introduce French consumers to the Dunkin' experience. In France, coffee and pastries are a true culture. Our ambition is to offer an accessible, delicious and flexible experience, any time of day."
While these two locations mark the brand's first in France, they are far from Dunkin's first locations outside of the U.S. Dunkin', which was founded in 1950, has more than 14,000 locations globally, and France marks the 40th country in which it is operating.
