Latham sex offender arraigned on child coercion indictment
LATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The U.S. Attorney's Office announced that a Latham man was arraigned on a child sex crime indictment on Thursday. Nathaniel Drescher, 41, a registered sex offender, was charged with the attempted coercion and enticement of a minor.
The indictment alleges that Drescher attempted to persuade an 11-year-old child to participate in sexual activities with him. Drescher was previously convicted in 2012 of soliciting a minor online in Johnson County, Texas.
"This conduct, as alleged, was especially egregious because the defendant had committed a similar offense before in Texas," U.S. Attorney John Sarcone said. "With our state and federal law enforcement partners, we will continue to ensure that sex offenders are prosecuted to the fullest extent to the law when they commit new crimes."
If found guilty, Drescher faces at least 20 years and up to life in prison, as well as a fine of up to $250,000 and numerous years of probation. He was ordered to be detained while awaiting the start of his trial.
"This indictment proves crimes against our most vulnerable will be met with swift and decisive action," FBI Special Agent in Charge Craig Tremaroli stated. "The FBI, together with our law enforcement partners, is committed to protecting children and bringing predators like Mr. Drescher to justice."
The FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force and New York State Police are investigating the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Allen Vickey is handling the prosecution.
