Kristen Stewart Is Bringing Dip Dye Back
Kristen Stewart has had a lot to celebrate this year. She got hitched to longtime partner Dylan Meyer in a super-secret ceremony at a Mexican restaurant just last month, and she’s at Cannes right now promoting her directorial debut, The Chronology of Water. While the photos of the wedding showed that Stewart was still bright blonde with some of her natural brunette roots peeking out, she stepped out onto the red carpet last Friday with freshly bleached roots and bright-pink ends. Perhaps she felt she was due for a new style. Or maybe she surrendered to the siren song of a dramatic hair change to mark life’s milestones — we’ve all been there.
The actress-filmmaker threw her hair up into a grungy, messy bun, and the dip dye echoed the pinky-lavender tones of her Chanel outfit: a tweed suit with a sheer chiffon skirt and matching heeled sandals. And Stewart wouldn’t be Stewart if she didn’t add some edge to the outfit, so she styled the cardigan to show off her belly button, despite the festival’s updated dress code that bans nudity “for decency reasons.”
It’s not the first time the Twilight star has flouted Cannes’ strict rules; in 2018, she made headlines for taking off her red-bottom heels and going barefoot on the red carpet. (For context, before this year, the policy required all women to wear heels.) Who can blame her? High heels can be painful.
Anyway, Stewart also showed up at the premiere of Bono: Stories of Surrender this year, where she wore a short suit, a mini-tie, and a baseball cap. This time, she let down her blonde-and-pink hair to let us gaze at it in its full glory. I know most of us left dip dye behind when we entered the 2020s, but maybe it’s time to bring it back.
