Residents Saddened After Niki's Restaurant Suddenly Closes After 35 Years
An "iconic" Florida restaurant is closing its doors on May 31 after serving the local Melbourne community for 35 years.
Niki's Restaurant, which offers classic diner fare with a Greek twist, according to the USA Today, announced its closure in a May 18 post on Facebook.
"After 35 years, it's time to retire! I sincerely thank you for all of the years of your loyal patronage," the owners, Floyd and Audrey Bradley, wrote in a social media post. "Niki's last day open will be Saturday, May 31st! It's been fun! Thank you!"
Patrons of the restaurant flocked to social media to show their love and support as the owners head into retirement. Fans of the restaurant admitted they'll miss some of their favorites including souvlaki, gyros and lamb shank while others miss sweet treats like homemade pies and cakes.
"Oh man!! So sorry & so happy to hear. For 21 years ya’ll made Judy & I so happy. Breakfast, lunch & our place for dinner EVERY Thursday night except Thanksgiving, Christmas & during your vacation times. Ya’ll are the best!! Floyd & Audrey - best wishes," one person said.
"Oh, I hate seeing this. Not that you all don’t deserve to retire, but you all have been a part of my family going there since I was younger. Hope to get in there before you close," added another.
"Floyd, congratulations on your well-deserved retirement. On the other hand, my family and I have been patrons for over 30+ years and especially the last 18 years. I will miss my Niki's family as much as my favorite Niki's dinners and definitely Bruno's amazing cakes," offered a third.
