SHAWNEE COUNTY (KSNT) - Work crews are set to start the next phase of a road construction project in Shawnee County that will result in a new roundabout west of Topeka.
Amanda Monhollon with Shawnee County said in a press release on May 21 that workers will start the second phase of an ongoing road work project on Tuesday, May 27. Workers will begin to install a new roundabout at the intersection of Southwest 29th Street and Southwest Auburn Road.
Monhollon said the newly constructed 29th Street roundabout will be open to traffic, providing access to the new USD 437 Middle School Complex. Southwest 29th Street will stay closed just east of Auburn Road and Southwest Auburn Road will also be shut down at the intersection with Southwest 29th Street.
Drivers are encouraged to follow local detour signs while the project is ongoing. Southwest Auburn Road north and south of Southwest 29th Street will not be accessible to through traffic but people who need to reach local properties near this construction work will still be able to do so. The second phase of this project is set to be finished by mid-December this year.
