This 'Chaotic' New Comedy From The Team Behind Baby Reindeer Sounds Addictively Uncomfortable
Baby Reindeer is still picking up awards and generating conversation more than a year after its release – and while it doesn’t sound like a second season is ever going to be on the cards, the team behind it have a new show in production that looks set to be just as gripping.
On Thursday night, Disney+ announced it had a new British series in the works from Clerkenwell Films, the production company who have previously had hits like The End Of The F***ing World, Misfits and, of course, Baby Reindeer.
Alice And Steve will feature Nicola Walker and Flight Of The Conchords’ Jemaine Clement in the lead roles, as a pair of middle-aged life-long friends.
The duo’s relationship faces a massive obstacle when it’s revealed that Steve has begun a relationship with Izzy, Alice’s 26-year-old daughter, played by Yali Topol Margalith.
An official synopsis teases: “Although both are no strangers to chaos and dubious decision-making, their once rock-solid friendship is turned upside down and tested to its limits – threatening their families, futures and everything in between.”
Nicola – whose work includes The Split, Last Tango In Halifax and Unforgotten – said: “I’m thrilled to be stepping into the fabulous world of friendship, motherhood, marriage, frantic revenge and fierce love that Sophie Goodhart has created, and to be doing it with Jemaine Clement is completely joyful!”
Jemaine Clement also quipped: “I really relate to Steve – he’s classy, stylish and an all-round good guy – except for when he isn’t.
“I’m excited to be working with the wonderful Nicola Walker and seeing how Steve and Alice’s relationship descends into absolute chaos.”
Alice And Steve was penned by Sophie Goodhart, who has previously written on Rivals and Sex Education, with This Is Going To Hurt’s Tom Kingsley on directing duties.
Filming is already underway on the project in London, with a date for its Disney+ premiere yet to be confirmed.
