'Hunger Games' Returns to Streaming on HBO Max Before 'Sunrise on the Reaping' Release
Fans have been buzzing with excitement since the announcement that the mega-popular movie series Hunger Games would return with a prequel.
The upcoming film, Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, will focus on a time before Katniss Everdeen, a role in which Jennifer Lawrence starred. It's a unique and exciting follow-up to the series that began in 2012 and ran through 2015 with the final edition, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2.
A fifth movie, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, was released in November 2023. This film took place 64 years before Katniss' story.
While the build-up to any new addition in a popular series features the always-tough waiting period, fans did receive some good news to help hold them over.
As Comicbook.com revealed, the Hunger Games series is among the additions set to return to the world of streaming in June 2025. As the site reports, it'll be featured on HBO Max.
It's big news for the popular series, and should only help to add even more excitement ahead of its future release. As Deadline reported, Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will hit theaters on November 20, 2026.
The prequel will focus on Haymitch Abernathy, who Woody Harrelson portrayed in the first four films, as Deadline detailed. Abernathy was the mentor to Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, played by Josh Hutcherson, for the 74th and 75th Hunger Games.
