‘The White Lotus’ Star Parker Posey Dreams Up Wild Way to Bring Dead Character Back
Parker Posey wants to see Jennifer Coolidge’s character make a return to The White Lotus. The problem is, the character, Tanya McQuoid, was killed off at the end of Season 2.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Posey, who played Victoria Ratliff in the third season of Mike White’s HBO anthology series, said she’d love to see “all” of the characters come back for an all-star season, but she singled out Coolidge's character as one who needs to return—and she even brainstormed on how to make it happen.
"Tanya, of course,” Posey said, before asking. “Have you heard my idea?"
"Russell Banks, the writer, I was at Sundance 2010, and we were on the jury together, and he was working out to climb Kilimanjaro, and he makes these incredible climbs every few years," the actress said. “And there's a spirit that would come into these caves at a certain level in the mountains, and people would see these hallucinations, and it fascinated him. He wrote about it, and he had an experience — climbing and entering into one of these caves — of this woman who had this fur hat and this big fur coat and offered him a piece of chocolate, and then she left."
"And he turned to his friends and said, ‘Did anyone see that beautiful woman who just offered me a piece of chocolate?’ And they were like, ‘No, that was in your imagination,'" Posey continued. "And that's the way to bring Tanya back."
Coolidge’s character was introduced in the first season of The White Lotus, where she arrived in Hawaii with her late mother’s ashes in tow. The wealthy shipping heiress returned for a second season set at a Sicilian resort, but she had an early demise after slipping and falling from a yacht after her creepy husband Greg Hunt (Jon Gries) tried to have her murdered.
While Tanya was dead in the Thailand-set third season of The White Lotus, elements of her character’s story lingered due to the return of Greg Hunt, who was now going by the name Gary.
In February, Coolidge told Forbes in an interview that she was “envious as hell” of the Season 3 cast. FOMO aside, the actress noted that coming back as Tanya's twin sister probably wasn’t an option.
“Look, it’s not like I haven’t wished or whatever, but it isn’t happening,” Coolidge said of a future White Lotus return. “It doesn’t matter - they don’t need me. Mike White can tell a story better than anybody.”
