Jonathan Anderson Is Now the Sole Creative Director at Dior
In news you already knew was coming but is now official: Jonathan Anderson is the sole creative director of both menswear and womenswear at Dior, marking the first time a designer will helm both lines, along with the haute couture collections, since Christian Dior himself.
In April, Anderson left Loewe to lead Dior’s men’s collection to copious fanfare. Then last week, after much speculation, the fashion house announced the inevitable departure of its women’s creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, opening the slot up for Anderson’s immediate succession.
In a press release, Bernard Arnault, chairman and CEO of Dior’s parent company, LVMH, wrote, “Jonathan Anderson is one of the greatest creative talents of his generation. His incomparable artistic signature will be a crucial asset in writing the next chapter of the history of the House of Dior.”
Meanwhile, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, formerly of Proenza Schouler, will be taking over at Loewe, while Chiuri’s alleged and not-yet-certain next appointment is already a favorite morsel of gossip among people who gossip about this sort of thing. The fate of Anderson’s namesake label, JW Anderson, remains a bit fuzzy. In an interview with Vogue Business, Dior chairman and CEO Delphine Arnault spoke for Anderson and his eponymous line’s future: “It’s his namesake brand, so obviously it is a project that is really important to him. Yes, he’s going to stay involved in JW Anderson, but maybe in a different way. I think this would be more of a question for him.”
Anderson will present his first men’s collection in Paris on June 27 and will debut women’s this September.
