Rock Legend Wheeled Offstage in Coffin During Concert
Iggy Pop made quite the exit from his Saturday night concert at the O2 Victoria Warehouse in Manchester, England.
The 78-year-old rocker, whose real name is James Newell Osterberg Jr., finished his show by climbing into a coffin and being wheeled offstage. A shirtless Iggy Pop was wearing black pants and shoes for the finale, which drove fans wild.
As the coffin was taken away, Iggy Pop stuck his arm out and waved to the crowd before briefly lifting the lid and holding his arms out.
"LONDON We know how it started and this is how it ended. Would love to see some splendid and witty captions for this one! ⚰️," the "Godfather of Punk" said in an Instagram post which included footage of his exit.
In a tweet, Iggy Pop wrote “London was a hoot! How you exit is equally important to how you enter.”
While this "funeral" closed out Saturday night's show, Iggy Pop is not close to being done.
He'll be back on stage Tuesday night for a show at O2 Academy Glasgow in London, and indicated in an interview with Rolling Stone last month that he's not thinking about retirement.
“The central job has a lot to do with beating on things, strumming things, waving your arms about, and opening your mouth to yell or talk or sing a melody. And I enjoy those things,” he told Rolling Stone.
“I think there are days where I think, ‘Oh, I’d like to be by the sea with my feet up,’ of which I do at least a few times every year, but to actually shut down the part of you that needs to compete, that needs to move forward and just imagine that you’re going to enjoy [that]? I don’t think so. I don’t think that works.”
