Ballston Spa forces Game 3 with 7-3 victory
TROY, NY (NEWS10) -- The Ballston Spa baseball team earned a crucial win over Niskayuna in Game 2 of the Section 2 Class AA championship series, beating the Silver Warriors 7-3 to force a winner take all Game 3 on Tuesday.
The Scotties wasted no time, in the bottom of the first Kai Graybeal tripled to center field to drive in the opening run of the ballgame. Graybeal would score later in the inning on an error to push the Ballston Spa lead to 2-0.
Niskayuna would respond immediately, Michael Carlin singled down the left field line scoring a run from second to cut the deficit to 1. The following inning, Christian LaFleche would ground out with a runner on third to bring in the tying run.
The Silver Warriors would keep the momentum rolling in the top of the fourth. With a runner on first, Zach Mravlja doubled to the right field wall scoring Beckett Haughney to give Niskayuna the 3-2 lead.
Ballston Spa knew their season was on the line and answered right back. With two outs in the home half and two runners in scoring position, Nick Commisso singled into center field bringing both runners in to score, putting the Scotties back in front 4-3.
Ballston Spa's offense would not slow down the rest of the way. The Scotties added a run in the fifth on a balk, another in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Commisso and then their final run of the game crossed home plate on a Doug Chamberlain single into right.
With the win, Ballston Spa forces a winner take all Game 3 on Tuesday to be played a Joe Bruno Stadium with a start time of 7 p.m.
