United Airlines CEO Says 'Now is the Time' to Book For Summer
As we head into the summer months and people began planning their summer travel, United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby wants customers to know that they can get some good travel deals.
During a press conference on Monday, following the announcement of the reopening of one of Newark Liberty Airport's major runways, Kirby admitted that United has seen fewer bookings at the Newark Airport as a result of the high-profile issues the airport has been having over the past few weeks.
However, he also sent a message to customers as he made it clear that the lack of bookings have made fares lower than they will likely ever be in years to come, meaning now is a great time to book a vacation.
"We did get well behind on bookings because of the perception issues around Newark recently, so that means more seats are available, which means the fares are better than they're probably going to ever be in the years to come, so now's the time to book your vacation if you want to go to Europe or you want to head across the country," he said according to USA Today.
This comes as Newark finished its construction project on one of its three major runways nearly two weeks early – some welcomed news for United Airlines, which operates nearly 70% of the flights from Newark Liberty International Airport.
"The airport's runway construction project is now complete. That means all runways at Newark are open, and we're confident that will lead to even better on-time performance for our airline," United said in a statement on June 2.
The airport will now be operating at capacity and United is ready for summer travel.
