'Sinners' Ryan Coogler Admits ‘Intention’ Was Never for a Sequel
Ryan Coogler has become one of the hottest names in Hollywood, and the ultra-popular movie Sinners is just the latest reason why.
However, along with his most recent hit starring Michael B. Jordan, Coogler has directed multiple other popular films such as Fruitvale Station, Black Panther, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Creed.
Understandably, the tremendous success of Sinners has fueled a popular question about the movie's future—whether there'll be a sequel or prequel on the horizon. Coogler addressed that and more during a recent interview with Ebony Magazine, and his answer likely isn't what fans were hoping to hear about the future of Sinners.
“I’ve been in a space of making franchise films for a bit, so I wanted to get away from that. I was looking forward to working on a film that felt original and personal to me and had an appetite for delivering something to audiences that was original and unique," Coogler explained.
"I wanted the movie to feel like a full meal: your appetizers, starters, entrées, and desserts, I wanted all of it there. I wanted it to be a holistic and finished thing. That was how I was asked all about it. That was always my intention.”
From the sound of it, Coogler doesn't seem overly interested in expanding on his hit film, and it's understandable after hearing his approach to the film as a whole.
When also considering the fact that Coogler and the impressive cast knocked it out of the park with the movie, it's a respectable take to hear as a fan. Sinners was praised by critics and fans alike, receiving a stellar 97% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while picking up a score of 96% on the fan-focused Popcornmeter.
