06/04/2025: The Summer Feel is Here
The Latest Storm Tracker Forecast from Meteorologists Matt Mackie and Kevin Appleby:
The 3 H's of Summer will be in full force over the next few days. It will be hot with temperatures continue to climb higher and higher. With dew points rising, it will add some humidity to the air. And of course, we continue to deal with an influx of upper-level wildfire smoke, giving our skies that hazy, milky appearance. As we go into the weekend, temperatures trend slightly lower, but the entire 7-Day Forecast features typical summertime temperatures.
Despite the presence of smoke haze which will be a bit thicker than the past few days, a strong ridge of high pressure centered to our south and its associated southwesterly flow will allow for temperatures to climb higher than they've been so far this year. Many areas will climb into the mid to upper 80s. Some Albany-southbound within the Hudson Valley may hit 90.
Humidity will also be climbing and thus becoming more noticeable over the course of Wednesday. This will have a bigger impact in keeping temperatures elevated at night. Low temperatures will only bottom out in the mid 60s for many areas.
Temperatures will once again push 90 on Thursday, which will feature mugginess from start to finish. Additionally, with a slowly approaching cold front, we may finally see a few PM showers and thunderstorms tap into this more summer-like air mass.
Not everyone will see rain or storms, with the best opportunity to see a storm featured northwest of the Tri-Cities. Despite all the wet weather we had in May, many folks may wish to see an afternoon thunderstorm with just how sweltering it will feel outside! This front will change our wind direction, so we should get rid of most of, if not all of the Canadian Wildfire smoke haze, heading into the weekend.
With the aforementioned cold front finally swinging through on Friday, it presents the region with a much higher chance for some showers and storms.
By then, the coverage of storms and cloud cover will prevent temperatures from climbing as high as today and tomorrow. Many will only climb to around 80 despite a very warm start to the day. Temperatures trend a bit lower (seasonable) for Saturday with a few leftover showers. Yes, it looks like another weekend with some wet weather around here, but certainly a far-cry from the past few weekends which featured much more widespread & heavier rainfall for a much longer duration.
Sunday and Monday look like a pair of decent weather days, although Monday may feature a spot shower or two with highs climbing back to near 80. A better chance for showers and perhaps a few storms await us by next Tuesday, keeping temperatures in the 70s.
