Kingston man arrested in sexual assault investigation
KINGSTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Police arrested a Kingston man this week after a longstanding sex crime investigation. Faisal Saif, 37, was charged with first-degree criminal sex act.
On February 15, 2024, Kingston Police (KPD) received a report that Saif had allegedly sexually assaulted a 28-year-old victim earlier that day at the Rondout Market Plaza. During the ensuing investigation, detectives learned that Saif had left the country and reportedly traveled to Yemen.
Police were able to obtain a warrant for Saif's arrest issued by the Kingston City Court after supporting evidence was gathered. On Monday, Saif was detained and taken into custody by Homeland Security at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City.
Saif was then turned over to the custody of Kingston Police for processing. He was arraigned in Kingston City Court on Tuesday before being released under pretrial supervision.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call KPD detectives at (845)331-8404, or email Detective Michael Defrance at mdefrance@kingston-ny.gov.
