SLEMCO: Possible door-to-door solar panel scam in Youngsville
YOUNGSVILLE, La. (KLFY) -- An Acadiana electricity provider is warning residents of a possible scam by people using the utility's logo without permission.
SLEMCO said in a post on its Facebook page that customers and the Youngsville Police Department have notified the utility that a group of people is circulating door-to-door in the Youngsville area to try and sell solar panels to residents.
"Solar panels can be a good investment and help on energy costs - if properly installed by qualified, honest companies," the post reads. "While we don't know if this particular company is qualified or not, they are definitely using SLEMCO's logo and name without our permission, which doesn't indicate truth in advertising on their part."
SLEMCO said it is not partnering with any solar companies at this time, and thatYoungsville Police said the people do not have proper permitting to be selling door-to-door in that community.
"These folks were driving white, UNMARKED vehicles - another possible red flag," the post read.
SLEMCO said if you have any questions about a phone call, email or house-to-house visit that uses its name, please call 896-5200. SLEMCO employees will be in marked vehicles, and in a SLEMCO uniform.
