Sydney Sweeney Will Be Replaced By Mikey Madison In Horror Role
Back in January, it seemed that Sydney Sweeney's wildest film project was an ambitious adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's immortal short story, "The Masque Of The Red Death." But now, it seems that she might not end up starring in that movie at all. Instead, Sweeney may be replaced by recent Oscar-winner, and star of Anora, Mikey Madison.
Described as "a quintessential A24 movie" with "meme-able scenes that should resonate among the TikTok class," The Hollywood Reporter claims that although Sweeney was initially set to star in the film, she is now almost certainly being replaced by Madison. In the reimagining of the film, Madison will play "twin sisters in a story that sees a mad prince take in the noble class into his castle while a plague devastates the peasantry."

According to the same report, Sweeney has dropped out of the project "due to scheduling." Her next project is apparently an adaptation of the smash-hit video game Split Fiction, which was only released this past March. It's unclear if Sweeney's commitments to that project are why she will no longer star in The Masque Of The Red Death.
THR cited Sweeney's commitment to Euphoria and Gundam as likely reasons for the switch.
As of now, Madison's next movie project, following her win for Anora, has yet to be confirmed. Charlie Polinger, director of The Plague, and F*ck Me, Richard is set to direct The Masque Of The Red Death.
Anora is streaming on Hulu.
