Alan Tudyk Expands His Robot Resume With Retro 'Superman' Character
When Superman hits theaters on July 12, the cast won't only include David Corenswet's new Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane. We'll also see Justice Society members Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), not to mention Superman's dog, Krypto. But one character might just end up stealing the show, and after some speculation, the actor behind that character has been revealed.
Though we've previously glimpsed some cool Kryptonian robots in some advanced footage for Superman, it's now been confirmed that actor Alan Tudyk is the voice behind Superman Robot #4. In some new behind-the-scenes footage posted by director James Gunn, Alan Tudyk is seen on the set of Superman, as well as an amazing animatronic robot. No CGI here!
In the delightful behind-the-scenes clip, we see the fully functional robot talk to Superman and advise him that he needs more time to heal. This syncs up with a previous clip in which we see Krypto dragging an injured Supe into the Fortress of Solitude, where he's attended to by the robots.
In the new clip, we learn that not only does the legendary Alan Tudyk voice Robot #4, but that he's definitely not playing this like his other famous droid, K-2SO from Rogue One and Andor. "His voice is my voice, but with better enunciation," Tudyk says in the clip.
Known for his roles in Firefly and Resident Alien, Tudyk has been the official go-to robot actor for over two decades. Back in the 2004 Will Smith film I, Robot, Tudyk did the motion-capture work for the robot known as Sonny.
Will Superman Robot #4 become his most famous robot ever? It's tough to say, with K-2SO, Tudyk has some stiff robot competition from himself. But one thing is certain: His retro Supe robot looks incredible, and refreshingly, hilarious.
Superman hits theaters on July 12, 2025.
