Goggins and Lou Wood played doomed lovers Rick and Chelsea on the third season of Mike White’s immensely popular HBO series, but they ignited some controversy when it was noticed they no longer followed one another on the social media site. The move led some armchair sleuths to speculate about a feud between the two actors, something Goggins disabused during their recent interview.
“There is no feud,” Goggins clarified. “I adore, I love this woman madly, and she is so important to me. This is Goldie Hawn. This is Meg Ryan. She can do anything, and she will. You watch what the next 20 years of her experience will be…She is love, and I know that I am that to her. We care about each other very deeply.”

Adding that he was ready to “put this [issue] to bed,” Goggins explained that he often distances himself from co-stars once a project has ended. “When I left Justified…I didn’t talk to [Timothy Olyphant] for almost two years,” he said. “I’ve done that with every single thing that I’ve done.
“My catharsis in this experience was different than other people’s, because of my history in this place,” the actor explained while “beginning to cry.” Goggins spent time in Thailand following his wife’s suicide in 2004, and later returned to the same region to film The White Lotus. “I knew what [Wood and I] had gone through, and I knew how close that we had gotten, and I needed to begin to process saying goodbye to Rick and Chelsea. And I knew that that was going to take a while for me, so I let her know, ‘This is what I’ve gotta do.’ And she was extremely supportive about that.”

Goggins continued: “I needed to just back away from everyone. I haven’t spoken to anyone. I couldn’t handle it. Judge me or don’t. I don’t give a fuck what you think. This is my process. Rick means everything to me, and Chelsea means everything to me. And so that’s what I needed to do for me to process all of this.”
Lou Wood then piped in, questioning why anyone cares about Instagram followers in the real world. “Why is everyone obsessing over Instagram? That is irrelevant. We don’t give a s--te [sic] about Instagram…Eventually, I just started to sit back and watch these people making something out of absolutely nothing.”

At that, Goggins decided to change his tune and picked up his phone to re-follow his former co-star. “[It was] just a part of me just saying goodbye to this character so that now Aimee and I will be friends for f---ing ever,” he joked.
