Earlton man sentenced in vehicular manslaughter case
CATSKILL, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- An Earlton man was sentenced to prison after admitting to vehicular manslaughter. According to the Greene County District Attorney's Office, 43-year-old Evan Kravitz was sentenced to three to six years in prison.
In October 2024, Kravitz was arrested after a one-car accident in New Baltimore on County Route 54. According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Kravitz was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee when the car went off the road and struck multiple trees.
The passenger, 29-year-old Vance Cohen, was pronounced dead at the scene, despite life-saving measures taken by first responders. Deputies and emergency personnel also provided care to Kravitz but placed him under arrest.
Kravitz was initially charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while ability impaired by drugs. In the beginning of February, Kravitz pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter.
In New York State, the charge also carries fines up to $5,000 and the driver may have to suspend their license.
Kravitz was sentenced a few days after his guilty plea.
At sentencing, he was issued the possibility of parole if he does not serve the full six years.
