06/05/2025: Hazy, Hot, Humid, Few PM Storms
The Latest Storm Tracker Forecast from Meteorologists Matt Mackie and Kevin Appleby:
Yesterday was the warmest day of the season across our region, but we expect even higher temperatures for your Thursday with the presence of higher levels of humidity. It will feel like mid-summer, and a few PM downpours and thunderstorms are expected to materialize with this summery air mass in place. Temperatures trend closer to more seasonable levels beyond today as we are not expecting any big cooldown within this forecast.
We anticipate reaching 90 degrees for the first time this season this afternoon. Should that be achieved, it will occur just one day before the average first 90 degree day in Albany, so essentially right on par with normal.
Pop-up showers, downpours, and thunderstorms are anticipated to tap into the ripe air mass in place. These will be hit-or-miss, and many areas will actually avoid rainfall altogether. But don't be surprised if the skies look pretty threatening this afternoon into the early evening. One or two of the storms, on top of producing heavy rain, may produce hail up to quarter sized and wind gusts up to 60 MPH. This would be on a very, very isolated basis, should a severe storm even materialize.
A shower or two is possible overnight, but of note is that it will remain warm & muggy with low temperatures mainly in the mid 60s.
As a cold front swings through the region into Friday, it will support more numerous scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially for the afternoon hours. One or two of the storms may contain gusty winds. But, like Thursday, the severe threat is very low.
Temperatures will be lower, but it will still be a bit steamy with highs near 80. The humidity will finally decrease into the upcoming weekend.
Yes, rain chances continue into Saturday, but it won't be a washout. We should begin to dry out into Saturday evening.
Temperatures trend cooler as well, with highs only in the mid 70s on Saturday. It will be a nicer day Sunday with highs closer to 80 and more sunshine to go along with dry weather.
The start of the upcoming work week doesn't look as dry as the start of this one, but we also aren't expecting a lot of rainfall, either. Most guidance has the stretch from later Monday through Tuesday averaging out at a half inch of rain, with most of that falling on Tuesday. Temperatures will be rather steady during this stretch, with high temps generally in the mid to upper 70s. Drier weather builds for Wednesday, a trend that is expected to carry us through the end of the work week.
