Walton Goggins And Aimee Lou Wood Are Not Happy This Scene Was Deleted From The White Lotus Finale
Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood have opened up about an intimate scene that was cut from the season three finale of The White Lotus.
The pair starred together in the Thailand-set season of Mike White’s wildly popular dark comedy-drama, in which they played the troubled couple Rick and Chelsea.
Rumours of a feud have followed the co-stars ever since the season three finale premiered – partly due to the fact that fans spotted they were no longer following each other on Instagram – but they were able to put the speculation to bed after giving a joint interview to Variety.
And during that same conversation, the actors revealed that there was actually an extra Rick and Chelsea scene that was scrapped from the finale.
This moment followed the couple’s emotional reunion on the beach, after which they went to their bedroom to further discuss their relationship, followed by a sex scene.
Aimee claimed that the deleted scene had a “similar feel” to the scene at breakfast earlier in the episode, in which Rick told Chelsea “that’s the plan”, in response to her saying that she thinks they’ll be together forever.
It would also have served as a callback to an earlier sex scene involving Rick and Chelsea earlier in the series, which Aimee previously described working with an intimacy coordinator with to ensure it hit all the right emotional notes.
Aimee told Variety of the deleted sequence: “We designed the whole journey, even down to the fact that Chelsea gets on Rick in the first [sex] scene. Then in the last episode, it was Rick picking Chelsea up. It was so, so delicate.”
Walton then shed some more light on the moment, explaining that the couple’s first sex scene was to show their connection, while the second depicted “two people who were free”.
“It was this very long, suspended moment of these two people looking at each other. It was so powerful,” he claimed
The Hateful Eight actor then quipped: “Fuck you, Mike [White]! We want a director’s cut!”
However, this was far from the only deleted scene this season, with many of the ensemble cast revealing alternative versions that never made it to the screen.
Sarah Catherine Hook revealed she shot an intimate scene involving a surprising member of the cast, while Sam Nivola, who played her brother in the series, also said there was an alternative version of his pivotal scene that was “so scary”.
Elsewhere in the interview, Walton opened up about the speculation that has followed them for weeks, fuelled in part due to his absence at a viewing party for the season three finale, as well as reports of him unfollowing Aimee on Instagram.
