Woman says manager sexually assaulted her after company banquet at Columbus hotel
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A woman attending a banquet Downtown was allegedly sexually assaulted by her manager, who police said gained access to her hotel room after she was rendered unconscious from intoxication.
According to court documents, a woman filed a sexual assault report the morning of May 20 after she, two co-workers and her manager attended a banquet the previous night.
A criminal complaint stated that the four spent the night at the Holiday Inn in the 100 block of East Town Street on May 19, and each of them stayed in rooms registered under Ryan Campbell, the manager attending the conference.
Police said that the woman was intoxicated that night and was assisted by her two colleagues to her room, helped her in bed, fully clothed and on top of the comforter. Her co-workers said she “passed out” at 11:47 p.m.
Hotel video surveillance showed Campbell, 42, of North Royalton, Ohio, obtained a third key to the woman’s room, entered it at 12:03 a.m. and locked the deadbolt. A security guard and the two co-workers entered the room at 12:46 a.m. with an emergency key card to override the deadbolt and witnessed Campbell attempting to hide on the floor between the bed and the wall.
The victim, who told police she has no memory of the incident, was lying in the same position but without clothes on. Her colleagues positively identified Campbell as he reportedly fled the room and down the hotel stairwell.
Campbell was arrested on Wednesday and charged with sexual battery.
