Chipotle Makes Big $0.75 Addition to Menu
Amid concerning sales numbers so far in 2025, Chipotle is hoping a new menu item will help turn the tide.
The popular fast casual Mexican chain is introducing Adobo Ranch, a new dip, to its menu next week. The "smoky, spicy" sauce will cost $0.75 and be available at all Chipotle locations in the United States and Canada starting next Tuesday, June 17.
Made from a combination of adobo pepper, sour cream and a blend of herbs and spices, Adobo Ranch is Chipotle's first new dip since launching queso blanco in 2020.
Ranch surpassed ketchup as America's preferred condiment in 2024, a fact Chipotle mentions in its press release for the new menu addition.
"Ranch has become a cultural phenomenon, especially among Gen Z, who are finding creative ways to enjoy it beyond the traditional salad," said president Chris Brandt. "Our new Adobo Ranch taps into this passion, giving fans a craveworthy way to customize their Chipotle order with a completely new flavor."
Chipotle has been one of many fast food brands to take an economic hit this year. In the first quarter, Chipotle reported its first same-store sales decline since 2020.
Shares of the company have also dropped 12% so far this year, and Chipotle has had to scale back its expectations for sales growth for the rest of 2025.
The dip in numbers has coincided with consumers around the country pulling back on their spending due to economic concerns.
"Historically, fast-food chains have fared the best during recessions as diners seeking cheap meals trade down from full-service or fast-casual eateries to McDonald’s or Taco Bell. But last year’s pullback in consumer spending saw fast-food eateries hit hard," said CNBC in April. "Low-income consumers visited less frequently and pared back their orders, while consumers with higher incomes stuck to their usual dining habits, leading to same-store sales declines for quick-service restaurants."
