Big Red One sending troops to D.C. Birthday Parade
KANSAS (KSNT) - Working for you, 27 News reached out to the 1st Infantry Division (1ID) at Fort Riley to see if it would be sending soldiers to the Army's 250th Birthday Parade in Washington, D.C. The parade will coincide with President Donald Trump's birthday.
Personnel with the 1ID, also known as “Big Red One,” will be sending around 500 soldiers to DC for the event, according to 1ID spokeswoman Kelly Simon.
"1ID is proud to represent our 108-year history as America’s First Division in our Nation’s capital to mark this momentous occasion," Simon said.
More than 6,700 soldiers will travel from bases around the country to participate in the parade and festival between June 11 and 15, according to The Associated Press. The parade will take place on June 14, coinciding with Trump's birthday. It will feature hundreds of military vehicles, aircraft and thousands of soldiers.
The event is expected to cost between $25 million to $45 million and attract up to 200,000 attendees, according to The Associated Press.
