U.S. Announces Special Passport Service Across 12 States This June
The U.S. Department of State has announced that it will be holding "special passport fairs" across 12 states this June.
"Looking for a personalized experience when applying for your passport for the first time? We offer ongoing special events where you can apply in person on evenings and weekends," a news release says.
"These events are for first-time customers and children who must apply in person using Form DS-11. Adults who are eligible to renew a passport using Form DS-82 can submit the application online or by mail at any time," it adds.
For June 2025, the Department of State listed passport fairs in New Jersey, Texas, Florida, New York, Maryland, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, California, Georgia and Colorado. The specific times, dates, and locations are listed on the State Department's website. There are also special passport fairs scheduled for July 2025. However, all of the July events are located in New Jersey. The fairs aren't meant for people who are needing passports for "urgent" travel, the agency advised.
In cases where there isn't a fair near your location, the State Department advises that "some passport acceptance facilities are always open on the weekends. You can locate a facility near you by using our Acceptance Facility Search Tool."
"Passport acceptance facilities only offer routine and expedited service. The facilities do not issue passports," the Department of State noted. "Each facility mails your application to the U.S. Department of State. If you need a passport for urgent travel in less than two weeks, make an appointment at one of our 26 passport agencies or centers."
