Defendant pleads guilty to Troy stabbing
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Rensselaer County District Attorney's Office announced that 24-year-old Albino Zacarias-Garcia pleaded guilty on Friday to first-degree attempted assault in connection to a Troy stabbing investigation. Zacarias-Garcia was arrested in April.
As part of his plea, Zacarias-Garcia admitted that on March 31, he stabbed a 65-year-old victim near Second Street and Harrison Street, who was treated for their injuries at a nearby hospital. During the ensuing investigation, Troy Police identified Zacarias-Garcia as a suspect in the attack as well as another stabbing earlier that month, resulting in him being taken into custody on April 3.
"The Troy Police Department’s investigative efforts, along with the assistance of the Capital Region Crime Analysis Center, led to a successful apprehension of the defendant," Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly stated.
Zacarias-Garcia is expected to receive a sentence of 15 years in state prison and five years of probation in accordance with his plea agreement. His sentencing is scheduled for July 3 in Rensselaer County Court.
