Mark Hortman, Melissa Hortman's Husband, Posted Loving Facebook Photos
Mark Hortman was shot and killed on June 14 alongside his wife, former House Speaker Melissa Hortman, in the family's Brooklyn Park, MN, home, according to Minnesota's governor.

Vance Luther Boelter, 57, a former appointee of Gov. Tim Walz, was named as the suspect by the New York Post, which cited sources.
The suspect, who was masquerading as a police officer, had shot and wounded a state senator and his wife shortly before, police say. He is at large, and Gov. Tim Walz called the murders of the Hortmans a targeted political assassination.
Hortman was active on Facebook, where he frequently posted about politics, tagged his wife, and posted a video of the family's dog at the front door. The family includes two kids.

According to Mark Hortman's Facebook page, he was a "Program Manager at nVent Electric" and "Former Owner at Avatar Solutions LLC." He lived in Brooklyn Park, MN, and was from Raleigh, NC.
His final public post was on May 18 and was about tariffs. "Maybe one of my Republican friends could explain this to me," he wrote.
Many of his posts were political in nature. In one, he urged people to support women in politics. "The whole Republican Party is just one corruption machine," he wrote on Facebook in 2023.
In 2009, Melissa Hortman wrote on his page, "I liked the profile picture with you and your wife : )"
His cover photo showed him on a bike.
Melissa Hortman's legislative bio describes her as "Rep. Melissa Hortman (DFL) District: 34B Speaker Emerita, DFL Leader."
It says she was an attorney. "B.A., political science/philosophy, Boston University; J.D., University of Minnesota; MPA, Harvard Kennedy School," her bio reads, adding, "Married, spouse Mark, 2 children."
