New World Test Championship cycle to begin with Sri Lanka-Bangladesh series: Special match for Angelo Mathews
Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are going to face each other in a two-match Test series- beginning June 17. This series is also going to be a great one for Angelo Mathews, who will be playing the last match of his Test career. Angelo had made this retirement announcement last month.
Najmul Hossain Shanto is going to lead Bangladesh. Fans will have high expectations from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Liton Dass, Ibadat Hussain and Shadman Islam. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will play their first Test match in Galle from June 17 to June 21.
Beginning of the new WTC cycle:
The Sri Lankan team is going to begin their new World Test Championship cycle. A lot of new players have been included in the team selected against Bangladesh. Pavan Rathnayake, Isitha Wijesundara and Pasindu Sooriyabandara are the new faces in the team. Lahiru Kumara, who was initially selected in the squad, will not be able to play the first Test because of an injury.
Head to head records:
Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have played 26 Test matches so far. SL have won 20 of the matches, and Bangladesh have won only one, with 5 matches ending with a draw. Both the countries have been facing each other in red-ball matches since 2001, and Bangladesh have managed to win one only in March 2017.
Very important match for Anglo Mathews:
The first Test match of the series is going to be very special for Angelo Mathews. Angelo had already announced that the series opener would be last match of his Test career. Apart from this, if needed, Mathews will be available for white-ball format.
