‘Sopranos’ Star Set To Celebrate Career With One-Man Show
HBO's critically acclaimed series "The Sopranos" aired its final episode in 2007, and it has developed a legacy one of the most popular and well-regarded television shows of all time.
Several actors from the show went on to lead successful careers, taking major film roles or starring in other prestige television series. One actor who rose to prominence with a late-career role in the hit show is set to take on an exciting new venture.
Dominic Chianese, who played "Junior" Soprano in the show, is set to hold a one-man show in New York City. The 94-year-old actor will field questions from fans, and he'll also use the opportunity to tell stories about his castmates.
'The stories, they come out, and the songs, they sort of portray the stories, too," Chianese said in an interview with People.
"I’m talking about all the beautiful mentors I've had all these years, wonderful mentors, colleagues in the business, especially Pacino and people like that, and the film director. I played a lot of authority figures, lawyers, judges, criminals. I played priests. It's a wonderful career. It's a very long career, a checkered career."
Chianese also starred in series like "Boardwalk Empire," as well as films like "The Godfather Part II," "Dog Day Afternoon" and "Cradle Will Rock."
Fans to only know his work as an actor may be surprised to learn that Chianese is an accomplished singer and has released an album entirely in Italian. He contributed some of his work to the show, singing a song that aired during the finale of the third season's finale.
I like to sing live, but Stevie Van Zandt taught me that you can really sing with your heart and let it out in the studio," Chianese said.
He taught me that, so when we did Core ’ngrato, and [Sopranos creator David Chase] said, ‘We’re going to use that,’ that made me realize in that recording, you can let it all out in a recording studio,”
The Sopranos left a lasting mark on millions of fans with clever storytelling, and one of the show's legends is taking his talent on the road to entertain one final time.
Fans can purchase tickets to the show, which will be held on June 30 at the Town Hall in New York City.
