Man arrested, charged with DWI after fatal crash with motorcyclist: Austin Police
AUSTIN (KXAN) — A driver allegedly struck and killed a motorcyclist while intoxicated on the evening of June 12, according to an Austin Police Department press release issued Monday.
The crash happened around 9 p.m. on June 12, in the 1700 block of South Pleasant Valley Road.
The motorcyclist, Eliasib Cortes Vargas, 34, was taken to a hospital where he died, APD said.
Officers arrested a Thomas Ajanel Chan, 54, and charged him with driving while intoxicated. The release states that more charges are pending.
KXAN will reach out the Chan's attorney when that information becomes available.
This is Austin's 43rd fatal crash of 2025 and its 47th traffic fatality. At this time in 2024, there had been 34 fatal crashes and 35 deaths.
