Breakout HBO Max Hit Just Got an Encouraging Season 2 Update
Although The Pitt stars Noah Wyle of ER fame, it's very much not an ER sequel. The show became a massive hit in early 2025 for HBO Max and was renewed for a second season in February. And now, for fans of The Pitt, there's more good news.
"Production is officially underway on The Pitt Season 2," according to a new report from Variety. The show films in both Burbank, California, and also, partially in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. For those who have slept on the show, it's called The Pitt because it focuses on healthcare workers in an emergency room. The first season was 15 episodes which covered 15 hours during the shift in the ER.

The second season is set to follow the same format, though it's not clear yet exactly how much time will be covered in the new episodes.
Although the series drew some legal ire from Michael Crichton's estate — which alleged that the show was too similar to ER — the series became a breakout hit among both critics and viewers alike. Currently, The Pitt Season 1 holds a 95 percent on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and 84 percent from general audiences.
In April, Wyle said he's willing to star as Robby in The Pitt for a very long time, and will do the show for "as long as you'll have me." So, if The Pitt goes on for several seasons, that might be just a few days for Robby, but many years for Wyle.
The Pitt streams on HBO Max. Season 2 is expected in January 2026.
