Beloved Restaurant Making Comeback After 32-Year Absence
As one Ohio seafood restaurant is closing its doors, another is set to make its comeback.
According to Sav McKee of 614Now, Marino's Seafood Fish & Chips in Columbus, Ohio, is closing up after 32 years. The owners, Harry and Rosemarie Kougendakis, are retiring.
“It was a good opportunity,” Harry said. “I’ve been in the food business all my life. 32 years, it paid off, and we’re ready to go now.”
But the spot, which is located at 1216 W. 5th Ave, won't be empty for long, as Arthur Treacher's, the restaurant that was originally in that spot when Kougendakis bought it, is coming back to the area.
Kougendakis revealed that there will be a "pretty quick turnaround" and Arthur Treacher's could be up and running in less than two weeks after Marino's closes.
The exact opening date for Arthur Treacher's isn't known yet, but could be as soon as the last day of June or early July of this year, Kougendakis revealed.
It has become increasingly difficult for restaurants to keep their doors open in this day and age because of rising food costs and several other factors, so it's good to see one that is closing on its own terms.
For Arthur Treacher's, this is a return to its roots.
The restaurant was founded in Columbus in 1969 but hasn't had a location in the area since the early 2000s.
