Costco Just Added a Popular Takeout Treat to Its Deli Section & It's Getting Rave Reviews
Your next Costco run will actually save you money — girl math! — because after stocking up on their new deli section offering, you won’t need to get as much takeout. Shoppers spotted this delicious new snack in the wholesaler’s deli section that’ll make a fast and easy meal when you get home. This takeout-inspired dish in question? Shrimp tempura!
Shrimp tempura is a Japanese appetizer with Portuguese roots that utilizes a culinary technique of frying bite-sized foods, according to Tomo Japanese Restaurant. It’s a way to get food that is tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. Tempura comes from the Portuguese term “tempêro” which means “seasoned.” It was originally made by coating food in flour and frying it, and it was introduced to Japanese cuisine by Portuguese missionaries in the 16th century. Although the recipe has evolved over the years with new cooking trends, shrimp tempura is still a popular item to order today. And now, you can have some anytime you want if you keep some of Costco’s on hand.
Instagram user Laura Jayne Lamb (@costcohotfinds) spotted shimp tempura in the Costco deli area, and it looks amazing. Lamb baked hers in the air fryer, “and they were crunchy and just so delicious,” she gushes in the video.
It also comes with a sweet chile sauce, which Lamb says “is amazing.”
It seriously does look good! Other happy customers had the same opinion. “These are SO good!! I’m a huge texture eater, and the crunch is amazing ????,” one shopper commented. Someone else said, “They also offer this in a box in the freezer section, and it tastes great.”
“We get these often, they are so delicious!! And the crunch is definitely 10/10!!” another person wrote. This is critical because you know it won’t replace takeout if it doesn’t have the same addictive crunchy taste!
Costco is much more than just a place to get your groceries. They have so much amazing food in their deli, bakery, and food court that’ll change your life. Or, at least, give you some quick and easy dinner options that taste restaurant-quality!
