'Pirates of the Caribbean 6' Boss Cryptic on Johnny Depp’s Potential Return
While the last film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series was released over eight years ago, fans have held out hope that it didn't mark the last time they'll see Jack Sparrow.
Although little has been said publicly about a potential Pirates of the Caribbean 6, rumors signal that it remains a possibility. Fortunately, the latest comments from franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer added a bit of fuel to that fire.
While Bruckheimer addressed the potential for a sixth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, he also addressed one other pivotal topic—the potential return of former cast members.
This, of course, would include Johnny Depp, whose character Jack Sparrow has long been the face of the franchise.
While promoting the upcoming F1: The Movie, Bruckheimer spoke with ScreenRant and first revealed that they're working on the screenplay and "really want to make" a sixth Pirates film.
"We’re working on a screenplay. Hopefully we’ll get it right — and then we’ll make it," Bruckheimer said. "We really want to make it, that’s for sure."
Then came the question of whether it'll feature new actors or the old cast, and Bruckheimer's cryptic response was noteworthy.
"Well, not all new actors. We’ll have some back..." Bruckheimer responded.
"...I’m not going to tell you which ones — you’ll have to guess."
The comment grabbed plenty of attention, especially considering the names most would be curious about returning are Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.
While fans certainly would have preferred a resounding "yes" to the topic of the sixth Pirates of the Caribbean being made and Depp's return, it's hard to envision the series going forward without Jack Sparrow.
After all, what would Pirates of the Caribbean be without Depp's iconic character? If there have been conversations about his return, Bruckheimer is doing his best to keep it under wraps, but it won't slow down the fan buzz.
