Modi to Trump: US played no role in India-pakistan Ceasefire
Indian Prime Minister Modi clarified in a call with President Trump that the U.S. played no role in the India-Pakistan ceasefire.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump, clarifying that Washington had no role in the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. According to an Indian diplomat, the ceasefire was reached through direct communication between the two countries’ military forces, not through any third-party mediation.
Modi emphasized that India does not accept any external mediation in its relations with Pakistan, stressing that the ceasefire was initiated at Pakistan’s request. He further added that no discussions had taken place regarding issues such as U.S.-India trade agreements or any intervention by Washington between the two countries.
An Indian Ministry of External Affairs official confirmed that during the phone call, Prime Minister Modi explicitly told President Trump that no other topics, including any peace mediation by the U.S., had been discussed. The White House has not yet commented on the details of the conversation between the two leaders.
Earlier, Pakistan had claimed that the ceasefire was initiated after the Indian military proposed a halt to hostilities. The tensions between India and Pakistan had escalated in May when India accused Pakistan of being involved in the killings of 26 tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir, leading to a four-day military clash.
During this period, President Trump had claimed credit for facilitating the ceasefire, stating that his intervention had saved the two nuclear-armed neighbors from an impending war. However, Modi’s recent statements have made it clear that India views the ceasefire as a bilateral matter, not influenced by any external parties.
As tensions remain high between India and Pakistan, it is likely that both countries will continue to handle their issues independently, with little room for third-party involvement. Given the complexity of the relationship, the situation could evolve further depending on the diplomatic moves made by both nations.
