Texas Police Issue Terrifying Warning About Poisoned Banana Bread
Texas police are issuing a very disturbing warning about poisoned banana bread that's left some residents concerned about what they may have eaten.
The Pleasanton Police Department posted a public safety warning on Facebook on June 16 about locally sold banana bread that might be tainted, urging residents to contact the police if they see someone selling banana bread on the streets.
The post read, "Our department is currently investigating reports of a possible foreign substance found in banana bread being sold throughout the city. We urge all citizens not to purchase banana bread from individuals selling it door-to-door, in parking lots, or while going business to business. If you encounter anyone selling banana bread in Pleasanton under these circumstances, please report it to our office immediately. Please Share!!!"
Pleasanton Police Chief Ernest Guerra told KSAT that the banana bread in question was found to have the muscle relaxer tizanidine in it. Guerra said the department was told on May 1 that a woman who bought banana bread in a Whataburger parking lot noticed that it tasted sour and found odd white pieces inside the bread. The Texas Department of Public Safety tested the bread and learned it was contaminated with tizanidine.
According to the Mayo Clinic, tizanidine is available only through a prescription, and is used to relieve spasms, cramping and tight muscles.
Guerra told KSAT that police are working on getting a warrant for the man selling the bread.
The police department's Facebook post has not been updated with this additional information.
Not everyone's concerned about the warning. One person replied to the police department's Facebook post joking, "I was wondering why I felt so good after I ate that bread."
Another person commented, "The foreign substance in the banana bread is called 'Love.'"
Pleasanton is a small town in Atascosa County, Texas, with the official motto, "The City of Live Oaks and Friendly Folks." It's located near larger Texas cities: just 35 miles from San Antonio and 110 miles south-southwest of Austin, Texas.
Authorities are asking any local residents who encounter a banana bread seller in a parking lot or going home-to-home to call the police at 830-569-3869.
