Evacuation warning lifted as crews continue to battle fire in Antioch
ANTIOCH – Authorities on Wednesday night issued and later lifted an evacuation warning as crews continued to battle a 200-acre wildfire in Antioch.
The Somersville Fire ignited around 7 p.m. near Somersville Road and James Donlon Boulevard, according to Cal Fire and the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District. As of 10 p.m., the blaze had charred 209 acres and was 0% contained.
“Firefighters are aggressively working to contain the fire,” Cal Fire said in an incident update. “The fire is burning in annual grass and brush, allowing firefighters to work quickly to extinguish the fire.”
In a social media post around 10:10 p.m., the fire district said “the fire is holding within its footprint.”
One person suffered minor injuries in the fire, according to the fire district.
Around 8:50 p.m., the fire district announced an evacuation warning for zone ANT-E007, which encompasses the area north of Grimsby Drive, south of Hamlin Drive, east of Lafayette Drive, and west of Tabora Drive, Silver Creek Circle and James Donlon Boulevard.
The warning was lifted just before 10 p.m.
An evacuation point was established at Canal Park, located at 3200 Gentrytown Drive.
There were no immediate reports of damage to structures. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
