1 dead, police officer injured after officer-involved shooting in Chautauqua County
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- One man is dead and a police officer is injured after an officer-involved shooting occurred on Wednesday in the Town of Mina, the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office announced.
Officers responded to a domestic incident call just before 4 p.m. on Mina French Creek Road where upon arrival, they reportedly encountered an armed man.
Officials said an exchange of gunfire occurred between the man, who had a shotgun, and two officers outside of the residence after several attempts to deescalate the situation.
The man, from Mina, was described as middle-aged by officials, but was not identified. He was pronounced dead at the scene. One officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries to both of his hands and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Two of the involved officers have been with the police agency for a few years and were not identified by officials.
The investigation remains ongoing. The Attorney General's Office is also investigating, which is required by state law with police-involved shootings.
