Eric Dane Makes First Red Carpet Appearance After ALS Diagnosis
On June 18, Eric Dane made his first red carpet appearance since announcing his ALS diagnosis. The appearance comes just days after Dane, 52, admitted in an emotional interview that the right side of his body “has completely stopped working.”
Dane came out for the premiere of his new Amazon Prime police procedural Countdown, in which he stars opposite Jensen Ackles and Jessica Camacho. During the event, Dane posed for photos with Ackles as well as series creator Derek Haas. Countdown follows Mark Meacham (Ackles), an LAPD cop who uncovers a sinister conspiracy while investigating a murder. Dane plays Nathan Blythe on the series.
In April, Dane revealed to People that he had been diagnosed with ALS, a degenerative disease which affects muscle function. “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter,” he said at the time. “I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
Earlier this week, the actor provided a “sobering” health update during an interview with Good Morning America. "I have one functioning arm," Dane said. "My left side is functioning. My right side has completely stopped working." He explained that his left arm is “going,” believing he has “a few more months” before that side of his body becomes immobile, as well. However, the actor ended on a hopeful note. "I don't think this is the end of my story. I just don't feel like, in my heart, that this is the end of me,” he said. “I'm fighting as much as I can. There's so much about it that's out of my control."
Dane shares daughters Billie Beatrice, 15, and Georgia Geraldine, 13, with his wife of 21 years, Rebecca Gayheart. Dane and Gayheart filed for divorce in 2018; in March of this year, weeks before Dane revealed his diagnosis, Gayheart filed to have the divorce petition dismissed.
Countdown is streaming on Amazon Prime from June 25.
