One dead, one hospitalized after three-alarm fire at Hazel Dell apartment complex
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- One person is dead and another hospitalized after a three-alarm apartment fire in Hazel Dell early Thursday morning.
At around 12:30 a.m. crews with Clark County Fire District 6 responded to reports of a fire at the Ridgecrest Apartments on Northeast 104th Street.
Witnesses reported hearing a person screaming, followed by a series of explosions, officials said.
When crews arrived at the scene, they said part of the apartment complex was fully engulfed in flames and residents were trying to evacuate.
Fire officials said they found one person dead inside one of the units and another was rushed to a hospital with second-degree burns.
Firefighters say they are still searching for anyone still in the two-story complex. But thus far, they note residents in at least 12 units were displaced by the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
