'Mindhunter' Could Make Comeback 6 Years After Surprise Cancellation
One of the most beloved series on Netflix was abruptly canceled six years ago in a move that angered fans across the globe.
Mindhunter was initially given a five-season run by the streaming platform and, despite critical success of its first two seasons, was canceled by Netflix after just two seasons. Season 1 of the show received a 96 percent on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, while Season 2 bested that with a 99 percent while both seasons received a 95 percent from fans.
In 2023, four years after Season 2 came to a close, Netflix reportedly confirmed the show wouldn't be making a comeback. However, a recent interview from Holt McCallany, who plays Mindhunter star Bill Tench, suggests that the show just might make a comeback...if the sun, moon and stars align.
"So look, you know, I had a meeting with David Fincher in his office a few months ago, and he said to me that there is a chance that it may come back as three two-hour movies, but I think it's just a chance," McCallany told CBR. "I know there are writers that that are working, but you know, David has to be happy with scripts."
The actor revealed he even attempted a script and received notes from director David Fincher.
"And I recently wrote a script that he was kind enough to give me notes on. And I was in script revisions with David for two and a half years, so, but was very meticulous, which is why I think he's the best director in Hollywood. You know, he is certainly, by anybody's measure, in the top three or four. You know," he said.
While opening the door for a potential return, McCallany know it would take quite a bit of hard work and some luck to pull it off.
"And I felt very fortunate and privileged to have gotten to do that show at all. I would love it if it were to return. I think, like I said, you know, he gave me a little bit of hope when I had that meeting with him, but the sun, the moon, and the stars would all have to align," he said.
