'Shark Tank' Judge Mark Cuban Turned Down Chance to be VP
Billionaire and Shark Tank judge Mark Cuban doesn't often shy away from the limelight.
However, the Dallas Mavericks' minority owner turned down the chance for a major opportunity that would have generated massive attention throughout the world.
He told Kamala Harris that he didn't want to be considered as her vice presidential running mate. And, yes, it was an actual possibility, he revealed on a June 19 podcast on the Bulwark site with Tim Miller. But Cuban decided it would be "awful."
Cuban shared that Harris was serious enough about him to ask for "vetting papers."
According to Bulwark, Cuban explained that he turned Harris down because, in the words of the site, his "vetting book would be too long and it wasn’t worth the trouble."
He said he would not be “very good as the number-two person.”
When Miller told Cuban that he might have brought more to Harris's campaign than her ultimate pick, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, he acknowledged that "obviously it would have been different."
“My personality is completely different than Tim’s," he said on the podcast.
"My experiences, my backgrounds are completely different. I think I’ve cut through the sh** more directly. I’m not a politician. And so, it would have been different, but it would have been awful.”
Cuban did appear with Harris on the campaign trail, showing up with her at an appearance at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee at one point.
The billionaire even joked that Harris would have probably fired him in less than a week, and he said he thought she was going to win.
