Beach and pool hours extended on Long Island for heat advisory
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (PIX11) -- To help residents beat the incoming heat, one Long Island town is extending its beach and pool hours for the coming days.
The town of Hempstead will extend all beach hours to 7 p.m. and pool hours to 8 p.m. through Wednesday to help give residents a refreshing escape from upcoming triple-digit temperatures.
Additionally, town supervisor Don Clavin has announced that cooling centers will also be opened throughout the township.
The move comes after forecasters from the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Long Island, with an extreme heat watch until Tuesday evening.
