Colorado Lost 18 Del Tacos in 2025. Now They’re Coming Back.
When 18 Colorado Del Taco locations abruptly closed in February, loyal customers were left in the dark, completely blindsided by the closures. But just as suddenly, it appears at least some of these locations may be back on the menu.
After restaurant owner Newport Ventures lost their franchise agreement with Del Taco due to $125,000 in unpaid franchise development fees and allegations of having a “cavalier approach to the health and safety of its customers,” they declared bankruptcy and closed all 18 of their locations in Colorado, Restaurant Business reported.
According to an email sent to employees of the franchise, "It is with our deepest regret that we must inform you that the company's continued financial challenges have forced us to make the difficult decision to close the stores immediately."
This left Coloradans with only one open Del Taco location in the state, a store in Grand Junction run by a different franchisee. At that time, the company promised to re-open the closed locations. According to a statement by a Del Taco spokesperson:
“Del Taco is proud to have been serving the state of Colorado since 2003 and we appreciate the ongoing support of our loyal guests. At this time, our Denver and Colorado Springs franchise locations are temporarily closed. We will re-open these locations as soon as possible and will share updates as they become available."
And it seems that Del Taco is fulfilling that promise starting with the Front Range locations. According to an email sent to customers this week, Del Taco is already coming back. The email reads, in part: “The rumors are true… your Front Range Del Tacos are re-opening.
The Firestone location told 102.5 Retro that they would be reopening on Tuesday, June 24 and, according to Redditor r/akelse, “…the lone tree one is now open.”
This is welcome news for many, as Del Taco was named the Best Fast Food Taco by Thrillist in 2022 and who, according to their website, is the second largest Mexican QSR (quick service restaurant) concept in the United States.
