Man Arrested for Super Bowl 59 Halftime Show Decision
The on-field action from Super Bowl 59 centered around the Philadelphia Eagles, who ended the Kansas City Chiefs' bid for a third straight Super Bowl title with dominant blowout.
Between the two halves, fans were treated to a performance from one of hip-hop's biggest superstars in Kendrick Lamar. While Lamar performed some of his biggest hits, another individual made headlines with their attempt to disrupt the performance.
A man performing in Lamar's show allegedly unfurled Palestinian and Sudanese flags during the event, before being chased away by security.
41-year-old Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu turned himself in to Louisiana Police on charges of resisting an officer and disturbing the peace by interruption of a lawful assembly, according to TMZ Sports.
The show took place at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, the home of the NFL's Saints.
While Lamar performed "tv off" near the end of his halftime show, Nantambu allegedly waved a flag with a message of "Sudan and Free Gaza." Police say that Nantambu was hired by the NFL, but that he was not given permission by the league to "demonstrate as he did."
"We commend the Louisiana State Police for its diligence and professionalism in this matter," the NFL said in a message of its own after the arrest.
"We take any attempt to disrupt any part of an NFL game, including the halftime show, very seriously and are pleased this individual will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law."
The league also noted that Nantambu has preemptively been banned from attending games or events that it holds.
This is the second recent high-profile case that Nantambu has recently involved in, as he was the man former NFL star Antonio Brown allegedly tried to shoot following a celebrity boxing event in Miami.
Lamar's performance at super Bowl 59 was the most-watched in the history of the event, as 133 million fans tuned in to watch his performance. The attempt to disrupt the show did not make it to air, but word quickly spread on social media and within the stadium.
Fans who want to see Lamar will be able to do so throughout the summer, as he's visiting several American stadiums and venues with SZA.
