Even the most well-ventilated pair of hiking pants will have your legs roasting like sausages during the summer months. Hiking shorts, while they lack the knee-to-ankle coverage of their siblings, are less constrictive and much cooler, and the best ones still offer plenty of protection from the perils of nature. So it’s great news that, with months of hot weather ahead, Columbia has a fantastic pair of hiking shorts on sale for $24 less than usual.
Columbia Kenville Lake Shorts are just $36 right now, 40% off their $60 list price. They’re available in sizes small through extra large, 8- and 10-inch inseams, and olive, khaki, navy, and black colorways. An impressive 33 of their 38 total ratings are five stars, with customers calling them “light, comfortable, and stylish” and “the perfect summer shorts” that are great on a hot day.

These shorts are made of a 90% polyester/10% elastane fabric with two Columbia-specific technologies: Omni-Shade, which provides UPF 50 protection against UVA/UVB rays, and Omni-Shield, which repels moisture and resists stains. They have a button closure, partial elastic waist, hand pockets, and zippered cargo and back pockets that are great for safekeeping on the trail.
“These are the most comfortable shorts I own,” one customer raved. “The material and construction of these shorts are top notch,” they added, and “the elastic in the waistband” makes the fit “perfect.” Like many other reviewers, they write that they “will definitely be getting more colors.”

Lots of shoppers also wrote that, while these shorts can take a beating, they’re also the “perfect shorts for a casual or semi-nice outfit.” That customer added that they “breathe well, dry quickly, and flex to movement so they are pretty comfortable for warm days.” The pockets are also solid. “The side pockets are deep enough that my phone/wallet/keys don't flop out but not so deep you feel like things are banging against your knees” while the zippered pockets are great for stuff you want to “secure while being active.”
Columbia Kenville Lake Shorts are a nice blend of form and function, in other words, and a worthy addition to your summer wardrobe regardless of your own level of outdoorsiness. That’s true at full price, but with a 40% discount the question becomes not whether to grab a pair but how many to add to your summer short rotation.
