'Deadpool vs. Wolverine' Producer Reveals Moment That Made 'Grown Men' Sob
Nostalgia can get the best of anyone, as the crew of Deadpool & Wolverine learned early on into the job. Wendy Jacobson, executive producer of the 2024 film, told the story to the HeyUGuys Youtube channel, remembering the time "grown men were like sobbing" early in production.
As most stories go that involve grown men crying, it all began with Hugh Jackman. During the initial camera tests for Deadpool & Wolverine, Jackman walked out wearing his soon-to-become-famous yellow and blue suit. The actor, who has been portraying the character Wolverine since the 2000 film, X-Men, has never before worn this iconic outfit.
Jackman's yellow and blue suit featured in Deadpool & Wolverine is a replica of the original Wolverine costume from the Marvel comics. For many longtime fans, seeing the original outfit brought to life was a cathartic moment. "We knew it was a very special thing," Jacobson says in her interview with HeyUGuys.
Deadpool & Wolverine writer and Jackman's co-star Ryan Reynolds confirmed Jacobson's testament in a 2024 interview with Variety. "I've never seen a crew reaction like that," he said, "we barely talked about the suit in the early development because it was a no-brainer."
Jackman himself shared his reaction to wearing the yellow suit in the same Variety interview. "As soon as I put it on," he says, "I couldn't believe I never had before." While Jackman is not slated for any upcoming Wolverine roles, there's a good chance we'll see the iconic yellow and blue outfit again on screen. "You don't do this character now unless he's in the suit," said Reynolds.
