Diogo Jota's Final Hours & Destination Revealed
Soccer player Diogo Jota spent his final hours with no clue that they were about to be his last.
And now a new report in the Portuguese-language site Record details how he spent those final hours before perishing with his brother, Andre Silva, in the crash along a Spanish roadway.
Jota and his wife Rute Cardoso attended a friend's wedding over the weekend, Record reported. The site published a final photo of Jota and his wife looking happy at the wedding.
According to Record, Jota and his brother were heading to Liverpool, "following by car trip to Santander (Spain) from where he would follow by ferry to the south of England and then to Liverpool."
The day before he died, Jota had a final lunch with his new wife and their three kids, whom he married on June 22, according to Record. They lunched in Leça da Palmeira, the site reported.
The Friday before his July 3 death, Jota and his wife were at "the wedding of José Sá and Raquel Jacob," the site noted.
The site noted that the Liverpool club is starting its pre-season in less than a week and added that Diogo Jota "was advised to travel by car and not by plane to avoid cabin pressure due to a lung issue to which he had recently operated."
The Associated Press also cited Portuguese media in reporting that Jota "was headed to the northern city of Santander to take a ferry to England after being advised not to fly following a recent lung procedure." However, the AP noted that the reports could not be "immediately confirmed."
The funeral is expected to be Saturday in the Portuguese city of Porto.
That car ride ended with a blown tire, according to Spanish police, which sent the luxury automobile hurtling and then bursting into flames.
Jota, 28, and his brother, 25, died at the scene. Jota's brother was also a professional soccer player.
