BWI arrest made when crews respond to Lake George drowning
LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- One person has drowned, and another was arrested on Lake George Friday. Police said the incident took place around 5:20 p.m. in Harris Bay.
According to police, five people were on a pontoon boat in Harris Bay. They stopped to swim while the unanchored boat began to drift.
A 21-year-old woman began to have trouble and slipped under the surface. A 27-year-old man on the boat took the controls and attempted to back up toward her. However, police said the lurch from rapid acceleration caused two other women to be ejected from the boat. One hit her head on the boat and got a laceration; the other was uninjured.
North Queensbury Fire Department divers located the 21-year old in 14 feet of water. The man who operated the boat was arrested for boating while intoxicated.
Names are being withheld until the victim's family has been notified.
